A resident of the city of Changchun, Jilin province, decided to try growing a pineapple plant at home a year ago, after reading an article on how to grow the fruit on WeChat, a Chinese social media, and she became the proud owner of a 1.5-kilo sample of the tropical fruit, on June 15.

When asked about her success story, Ms. Li said simply that she did more out of curiosity than anything else and watered it regularly. "My children kept telling me to give it up for many months, calling it a 'mission impossible', but I insistent and finally I made it," Li said.

Not only that, but now the mature pineapple has a baby pineapple growing right alongside it.
