New evidence of Siberian tigers in NE China

2016-06-01

When a forest ranger in Jilin province reported seeing what appeared to be a trail left by a Siberian tiger, on May 26, the discovery was followed up and later confirmed to be that of a young female Siberian tiger.

Chi Fenglin's discovery was the fifth since March of 2015 to be recorded in Wangqing country, Jilin and indicates a wider range of wild Siberian tigers, from the border with Russia to other parts of northeastern China, especially around the Changbai Mountains.

The increased area also shows that the Forestry Bureau in the Tianqiaoling area of the county is playing an important role in improving the tiger's habitat and for future reproduction and growth of the tigers.

Tianqiaoling ia located near the Laoyeling part of the Changbai Mountains, which is well-suited as a habitat for wildlife because of its climate, plants and better forest ecosystem.
