Changchun expats help with rural education

In Changchun, the capital of Jilin province, some foreigners held a one-day German cabbage celebration and a charity auction to collect money for a local primary school, on March 17, bringing in 300 expats.

They started by hiking up a local hill in spite of the cold weather then came down to the Shangri-La Hotel to auction off some paper-cuts made by local primary school pupils and items provided by the hotel, raising more than 30,000 yuan ($4,853) to purchase equipment for a local primary school.

The cabbage celebration is a northern German event held annually during the cabbage harvest in September, with an abundance of tasty dishes and cabbage creations.
