"The number of tourists from Thailand to Jiangxi province has been hovering around 1,000 in recent years. However, the figure will rise exponentially after the launch of the Nanchang-Bangkok direct flight," according to a director of the Thailand Tourism Association.
The Nanchang-Bangkok direct flight will be launched on Oct 2, 2012. It is the second international direct flight route in Jiangxi. The first is the Nanchang-Seoul flight route which began operation on Oct 30, 2008.
Li Ruifeng, deputy director of the Jiangxi Tourism Administration, said that the new flight route would encourage tourism exchange between Jiangxi and Thailand. It will considerably facilitate tourists from Jiangxi to travel to Thailand, and at the same time, bring more back to Jiangxi.
In the past a visitor to Thailand would have to spend five hours on the plane and another two to three hours at the airport transferring in Shanghai or Guangzhou before flying to Bangkok. The Nanchang-Bangkok direct flight has reduced travel time to only three hours.
The new flight has also reduced travel costs between Nanchang and Bangkok. For example, a Thailand tour was previously 3,480 yuan ($548.80) per person, but has now been lowered to 2,880 yuan ($454.18).
