Lake protection consensus reached in exchange conference
 

The first China Jiujiang Poyang Lake International Famous Lakes Friendly Exchange Conference was held in Gongqingcheng, Jiujiang of Jiangxi province on Aug 26.

The first China Jiujiang Poyang Lake International Famous Lakes Friendly Exchange Conference kicked off in Gongqingcheng, Jiujiang of Jiangxi province on Aug 26. The Gongqingcheng Declaration concerning regional development and lake protection was signed and a consensus was reached to realize sustainable development of lakes.

Representatives from nine world famous lakes and three domestic lakes released the declaration and discussed challenges facing the protection and development of lakes at the conference.

The conference has served as a platform for famous lakes in the world to carry out exchange and cooperation. Representatives talked about topics related to the theme of "Lake Protection and Regional Development", including urban construction, environment protection, and the development of low-carbon industries, noted Li Jianping, vice-president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Foreign famous lakes that were represented include: Lake Baikal in Russia, Lake Balaton in Hungary, Lake Biwa in Japan, Lake Tonle Sap in Cambodia, Lake Taupo and Lake Rotorua in New Zealand, Lake Nakuru in Kenya, Oulu Lake in Finland, and Kentucky Lake in the United States. Domestic representatives invited to attend the conference were from Qinghai Lake and Poyang Lake.
