The highest bronze Buddha to open for free

Donglin Buddha, the highest bronze Buddha statue in the world, will be free of charge when it completes construction, announced by the Donglin Temple on May 8.

The construction of the Donglin Buddha was completely donated by Buddhists all over the world and kind-hearted people. In May of 2007, approved by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the Donglin Buddha construction project started with a total investment of one billion yuan.

The 48-meter-high Donglin Buddha integrates merits of the Buddha statues in the prosperous Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) such as the Longmen Grottoes, marking the highest level for modern religious art. Until now, it is the highest open-air gild bronze Buddha in the world.
