Updated: 2011-09-22

Longgui tea originated in Longgui village, a hilly area 1,000 meters above sea level in Ledong township, Chongyi county, Jiangxi province. It was an article of tribute to royalty in the late Qing Dynasty.

The tea is well known for its unique enduring faint scent, emerald green color, and lasting aftertaste.

The tea helps to clear the liver and improve vision, remove fat, and excite the central nervous system. It is a treatment for meningitis, nephritis, hepatitis, gastritis, heart disease, hypertension and diarrhea.

Longgui tea is a seasonal product as is sold mainly during spring and autumn. The spring tea is most famous. Ledong township borders Guangdong and Hunan provinces. Long ago, transport infrastruction was poor so the tea was processed on smaller scales. Many Cantonese would climb over the border mountain to collect the tea from door to door, at a price of 60-100 yuan per kilo. They were sold at higher prices when shipped to Guangdong. Therefore, Longgui tea is truly famous outside of the producing area. Drinking Longgui tea regularly helps the body's metabolism and prolongs life.
