Overview of transportation

The major means of transportation for traveling in JIangxi are flights, railway and highway. You can choose any one of them to travel.

Air

The civil aviation in Jiangxi province has developed very fast since the founding of PRC. By now, Jiangxi has formed an aviation network which serves the city of Nanchang as the center and radiates to the cities of Jiujiang, Zhangshu, Taihe, Ji'an, Jingdezhen and Ganzhou within the province and other provinces and regions in China, including Hong Kong. There are five airports situating in Nanchang, Jiujiang, Jindezhen, Ji’an and Ganzhou.

Numerous air lines have been in operation, and cover many main cities of china. Chartered flight from Nanchang to Hong Kong is available. International lines have been approved by authority including Nanchang-Singapore, Nanchang- Kuala Lumpur, Nanchang-Frankfurt, Nanchang-Paris, Nanchang-Los Angeles and Nanchang-Vancouver.

Railway

Jiangxi province has a well-developed railway network. There are a total of 2,241 kilometers railway lines and 200 railway stations within the province.

Major trunk railways include Jingjiu line (Beijing-Kowloon), Zhegan line (Hangzhou-Nanchang), Yingxia line (Yingtan-Xiamen), Ninggan line (Nanjing-Nanchang), Xiangjiu line(Xiangtang-Jiujiang), Xiangji line (Xiangtang-Ji'an) and Wujiu line (Wuhan-Jiujiang).

In coming years, a new national trunk railway running along the Yangtze River will be constructed. The new railway will cross various provinces and municipalities including Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Chongqing and Shanghai and greatly enhance the economic development of the Yangtze River Valley.

Highway

Jiangxi province has formed a comprehensive highway system accessible from all directions. There is a comprehensive network including the Nanchang Bridge and the Nanchang-Jiaotan section of the Nanchang-Jinjiang motorway. Changzhang Expressway between Nanchang and Zhangzhou, the Jiujiang-Jingdezhen Expressway and the Ganyue Expressway linking Jiangxi's Nanchang, Ji'an and Ganzhou with Guangdong province.

Among the total length of 37,318 kilometers, 30.48% are of the first or second classes. Almost all the county-level areas have asphalt roads and all the towns have been open to traffic. 

Waterway

Jiangxi waterway system mainly consists of the Yangtze River (Jiangxi section), Ganjiang River and Xinjiang River, which totals 5,638km. There are 54 ports in all with a total annual handling capacity of over 10,000 tonne, including Jiujiang Port (over 6 million tonne), Nanchang Port and Ruichang Port (3million-5 million tonne), 7 ports (1 million-3 million tonne) and 44 ports (below 1 million tonne). Nanchang International Container Handling Dock and Jiujiang International Waterway Transportation Center have been constructed, from which ships can reach all major ports of the world.
