Zhangjiagang artists bring Pingtan Opera to Guizhou

A group of professional artists in Zhangjiagang showcased the charms of Pingtan Opera in Yanhe Tujia autonomous county, Guizhou province on Aug 4.
Pingtan Opera, featuring ballad singing in Suzhou dialect, is a traditional folk art form popular in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai. It is a variety incorporating Pinghua and Tanci, which are two forms of Chinese folk art.
Pinghua is mostly performed by a narrator who tells historic, heroic, and epic stories, while Tanci refers to one or more performers playing a pipa instrument to sing songs.
The performances involved various art forms of Pingtan like Tanci and Pinghua. It offered local residents in Yanhe Tujia autonomous county a chance to get close to the traditional culture of Zhangjiagang.
