The 6th National Xiaoxi and Xiaopin Show concluded with a final show at Zhangjiagang Art Center in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province on Nov 3.
The festival featured a huge range of performances inspired by the traditional Chinese performing arts xiaoxi, a storytelling art that integrates song and dance, and xiaopin, a traditional style of comedy usually involving short skits.
The final show was a performance of the Guangdong Hanchu-style opera Yinyanghe, which tells the story of a couple named Li Guilian and Zhang Maocai, whose tragic relationship is saved by a god who is touched by their sincere love for each other.
The drama won high praise from the audience.
Other performances on the final day of the festival included the Chu opera new year's visit to county mayor, the Shaanxi opera Serenade in the Hut, and the native xiaoxi The Second child.
This year's festival has attracted more young people than previously to come and enjoy the charm of Chinese drama. Hui Chao, a 22-year-old, said she was very interested in Wuxi Opera.
"So glad to enjoy so many different kinds of xiaoxi from all over the world, and I hope that more youngsters can enter the theatre to enjoy such kinds of traditional culture."
