As part of 2015 China (Zhangjiagang) Yangtze River Culture and Art Festival, a theatrical gala has been staged in Jinfeng town of Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, on Nov 4.
The performers were mostly winners of "Plum Blossom Award," China's highest prize for drama. They took their performances to the town to enable locals to experience opera up close.
They presented Kunqu opera, Wuxi opera and Yue opera, comic drama, puppet show and crosstalk all which received a warm welcome from the audience.
An opera fan surnamed Chen excitedly said, "I am delighted to see so many opera stars in my city."
"Opera is a key part of China's traditional culture. The gala offers the younger generation like us a chance to better know the culture," reacted a young girl surnamed Lu.
