A first of its kind festival for WeChat users took place in the city of Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, on Sept 26, informed officials.

The festival held gathering of more than 20 government department WeChat account users including the publicity department, tourism bureau, court and the women's federation. On the occasion, the organizers also gave various gifts to a number of participants.

As part of Zhangjiagang's Internet culture festival, the event was aimed at enhancing interaction among netizens and government officials and businessmen. It was also to help locals better know the government information by encouraging adding their WeChat accounts.

Experts say, the mobile Internet is now embedded in people's daily life. People of all ages are able to become friends with new media platforms, such as WeChat and micro-blogs. They can share locations, pictures and news at any time and place with mobile phones.
