Zhangjiagang city is all set to become one of the 15 big cities in Jiangsu province in 2030, according to the province's urban development plan for the period of 2015-2030. Also, Suzhou and Nanjing will be the only two megacities in Jiangsu, informed an official.
In 2012, Zhangjiagang rolled out an overall plan for city development for the period of 2011-2030, based on which the city is going to grow into a big city with a population of 1.48 million by 2030. As per State Council’s standard on big cities, a big city should have a population between 1 to 5 million.
In addition, the officer also said that, the city plans to enhance cooperation with Shanghai port to transform into an important logistics center and a hot spot for high-end industries in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Two subway lines are also being planned to improve the city's transport system, which will include railways, subways and highways.
The city will also invest more into infrastructure construction, public facilities and urban management, he added.
Zhangjiagang, a port city in Jiangsu province, is close to Shanghai. It has maintained the top three status in terms of comprehensive competitiveness among all the county-level cities in the country.
