A nationwide tariff reduction on 14 types of imported consumer goods came into effect in Zhangjiagang on June 1. The cost reduction is expected to bring benefits to residents of the port city in Jiangsu province.
Zhangjiagang Port has become the largest wine importer in Jiangsu and the import volumes of disposable paper diapers and food also have witnessed steady growth.
The 14 categories of imported consumer goods to benefit from the tariff reduction include cosmetics, disposable paper diapers, and shoes and boots. The tariff cut on diapers is expected to benefit Zhangjiagang's young parents.
Import duties have on diapers have been cut from 7.5 percent to 2 percent; cosmetics saw a duty drop from 5 to 2 percent; and the duty on suits and fur garments dropped from 23 percent to 10 percent.
