A robot-themed restaurant recently opened in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, offering new choices for foodies.
The restaurant, the first of its kind in the city, covers an area of 200 square meters and is designed in the shape of a space capsule. The ceiling is reminiscent of a galaxy full of stars, bringing the clientele to the mysterious depths of the universe.

The robots operate as greeters, entertainers, cook and waiters. Each robot has a dozen facial expressions and can speak short simple sentences. They walk along magnetic tracks to reach their destinations.
Entertaining robots can also display artistic performances such as singing and dancing while cooking robots can make dishes that are comparable to that of professional cook. They can also respond to questions concerning space.

The restaurant highlights set meals involving French beefsteak, German prawn and Japanese codfish, with each set costing 88 yuan ($14.30).
Robots can help the restaurant save considerable costs since they only need recharge and will not get sick or ask for leave. Each recharge allows a robot to work eight hours non-stop.
The restaurant was co-sponsored by Zhangjiagang Guomao Hotel and HIT-ZJG Institute of Industrialization for Intelligent Equipment and Innovative Materials, with the aim of popularizing scientific knowledge among teenagers and stimulating their interest in learning science and technology.
