Xu Lingyi, deputy director of the Civilization Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), inspected Zhangjiagang's civilization construction on May 13.
Zhangjiagang displayed its economic and social achievements at the Culture Center. Xu watched the exhibition and highly praised the city's improvement of economy and culture as well as its hard work in adolescent education. He noted that education is closely linked to teenagers' future development, and the city should pay close attention to youth education.
Zhangjiagang's volunteer services also received high praise. The number of volunteers in the city reached 135,000 by the end of 2013. Xu suggested that the local government should organize joint efforts to promote volunteer services and maintain sustainable development.
During the two-day inspection, Xu also visited the Hexing community, Yonglian village and Donglai culture center. He commented that Zhangjiagang has been playing a leading role in city civilization and hoped the city will continue to focus on civilization construction. The Civilization Office will spare no efforts to push forward the civilization of county-level cities around the country.
