Many shops in Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province are selling swimming accessories including swimsuits, goggles and flotation rings as residents flock to swimming pools to cool down.

A college student surnamed Hou told a reporter she needs to buy swimming accessories because she plans to learn how to swim with classmates during the hot weather. “There are many modern styles and I’m dazzled,” said Hou. “I will buy something with good quality as I plan to swim a lot, even if it is expensive.”

A shopkeeper surnamed Zhu said she mainly sells clothes and shoes, but in summer she also sells swimming accessories. She is surprised to find that business is especially good this year. A total of 40-50 flotation rings and more than 30 swimsuits were sold in one day in Zhu’s shop. About 10,000 yuan ($1,631) worth of swimming products are sold everyday on average.

Other shops with swimming accessories on sale are doing well too. The government suggests citizens be careful when they buy things to avoid safety or health problems.
