The Wuxi National Hi-tech District (Xinwu District) held its first job fair after Spring Festival on Feb 4, offering 5,000 posts provided by 120 companies and attracting nearly 7,000 job hunters, the Wuxi Daily reported.

For recruiters: Manufacturing industry calls for more engineers

The manufacturing industry is calling for more engineers to accommodate the traditional industry's trend of becoming more intelligent.

"The number of employees we need is nearly as the same as last year, but we are calling for more engineers rather than operators", said Qian Feng, general manager of Wuxi NTGAGE Co, a company mainly engaged in producing diagnostic instruments for the precision parts and engine components of automobiles and aircraft.

The company only needs ten operators, accounting for 20 percent of the total number of the employees needed with the rest being engineering positions.

For job-hunters: Paying more attention to competitive industries and housing provident funds

"I want to find a job in a machinery enterprise or an intelligent manufacturing company," said a graduate from Changshu Institute of Technology majoring in mechatronic engineering. The machinery, internet of things (IoT) and automatic equipment enterprises were very popular at the job fair.

Social welfare, especially the housing provident fund, was also a key factor for job hunters. "I got married in Wuxi and the level of the housing provident fund exerts a big influence on me", said a job-hunter at the fair.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
