Fubao, Wuxi subway mascot |
Wuxi of Jiangsu province unveiled its subway mascot, Fubao or Fu-boy in English, on Feb 6, the local media reported.
The mascot, selected from 740 pieces of design works through several evaluations, will be used in promotion activities for the city's subway, said a staff member of Wuxi Metro Group.
The design is inspired by the image of Huishan clay figurine, a type of traditional craft arts in Wuxi which was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006, according to Xu Guangwei, the designer of the mascot and a member of Jiangsu Graphic Design Association.
The mascot combines Huishan clay figurine with the geographical features of Jiangnan water town, reflecting the concept of convenience, high efficiency, fast speed and environmental protection, Xu added.
As a personalized mascot, Fu-boy is endowed with special powers. His face, made of a high-tech LED mask, can sense passengers' emotions so as to provide them more comfortable and considerate services. The two antennas on his head are capable of identifying and handling security issues during subway operation.
