Shanghai Jiao Tong University signed an agreement with Taicang, a city in nearby Suzhou, Jiangsu province, on April 16 to set up its national health care research institute in the county-level city.
Qiu Gensheng, director of Taicang Health and Family Planning Commission, said his hope is that the two sides will co-develop organizations and platforms for the creation of a "Taicang model" in the sector. He also called on all parties earnestly to carry out the "Healthy China 2030" plan.
Bao Yong, professor, dean and doctoral supervisor at SJTU, emphasized that the university had decided to build the institute in Taicang thanks to all the enthusiastic endeavors and achievements the city has made in the past. He claimed the university would help promote the happy city to become a leader in the health care sector.
