There's a popular saying among young people in China that goes, "Beyond the pots and pans, there should be poetry and beauty." If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle and soak in the simple life, there's nowhere better than Jijiadun village in Jiangsu province.
This ancient village resting quietly to the south of the picturesque water town Jinxi is a simple place, but by no means an ordinary one.
With its scattering of old whitewashed houses crisscrossed by rivers and streams, and fields and hills stretching into the distance all around, the village is a perfect oasis of serenity and simplicity in this bustling eastern province.
You can cycle through the forests, stroll along the babbling streams, or simply lie down in the fresh grass and let the sun, breeze and relaxation wash over you.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are growing in the town during every season, such as loquats in May, waxberries in June, honey peaches in July and tangerines in November.
The village even caught the eye of Zhu Shengxuan, an expert on ecological planning who was the executive design director of Expo Garden 2010. The master's latest work, an elegant and poetic hotel, is now up and running.
