With online ticket booking, free WiFi, and free audio tours at scenic spots – this National Day holiday (Oct 1 - 7) proved to be the most convenient, accessible and 'smart' on record for tourists to Kunshan, Jiangsu province.
The extra benefits to visitors comes thanks to the smart tourism model adopted by Kunshan Tourism Resort app, which allows guests to travel freely throughout the city with all the helpful information they need at their fingertips.
After a year's worth of development, the resort has extensively upgraded its official WeChat account (kslvdjq) and now offers a "Tourist Helper" service by providing visitors easy access to electronic maps, audio tours, ticket booking, and public and recreational facilities.
What's more, the resort updates articles about travelling in Kunshan regularly via its WeChat account. "I often share these beckoning articles with my friends," said local resident, Zhang Weiying. "Many people are eager to visit my city."
These latest developments are part of a wider movement in smart tourism. By making use of modern technologies like cloud computing and the Internet of Things, visitors can get timely travel information to their phones and tablets.
"Technology can further facilitate the ease of travel on one hand, but on the other, it is also the hospitality and heart-warming services here that really touch the visitors," said a local tourist official.
