Escape the noise of the city on Oct 1 and come to tranquil Jinxi in Jiangsu province for the water town's famous freshwater fish festival!

One of East China's best-known and most beautiful water towns, Jinxi is famous for its peaceful atmosphere, vast waters, and its tasty fish.

Thanks to its clear water, Jinxi is home to many rare and delicate types of freshwater fish such as barbel and white silk fish, and all of these will be on sale during the festival in Jinxi's Hubin Park.

Visitors on Oct 1 will receive a 12 percent discount on all freshwater fish, and there will also be a range of interesting activities on offer, including "lucky bag" sales, auctions and beach parties.

There will also be a fair selling various kinds of seasonal fruit, nuts, local delicacies and handicrafts running alongside the festival.

The festival is also running a competition to find the best idea for a mascot for the event, with the winning design winning 5,000 yuan ($750)! If you want a chance of winning, make sure you submit your design before Sept 25. Shortlisted works will also be on display at the opening ceremony.
