A group of 40 pupils from local Kunshan primary schools recently took part in a three-day cultural experience camp run by the Kunshan Culture and Art Center on Aug 24-26.
The aim of the camp was to educate the children about some of their hometown’s rich cultural traditions and to enjoy some fine late summer weather with fun, games, and learning.
The first stop was Zhudian, a village on the outskirts of Jinxi, which has been well-known since the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) for its tile and brick kilns. The school children had the chance to appreciate the historical importance of the ancient kilns and also try their own hand at pottery. The students also enjoyed making some local specialty snacks including wadisu, an oval-shaped flaky pastry.
