Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, Tiaohualan (dance with a basket of flowers), Dalianxiang (Coin Stick Dance), and Danghuchuan (row a fake boat)

Dragon dance is a kind of folk dance performed particularly during the Spring Festival, Chinese lunar New Year.

Players in a dragon costume take coordinated and rhythmic steps and perform to the music of loud gongs and drums.

The dragon is held together by bamboo, and is covered under a huge red cloth. The whole dragon is approximately 35 meters long from head to tail. A person uses a pearl-like prop to lead the dragon. The dragon rises or falls, slowly or rapidly, to display various movements to the audience.

Tiaohualan is a form of dancing performed by women to celebrate the harvest, pray for safety, and express goodwill and happiness.

It is accompanied by string and woodwind music, melodious and smooth. The whole scene is full of happiness and joy.

Dalianxiang, or Coin Stick Dance, is a traditional Chinese dance.

The stick is made of wood or bamboo, is 80-100 cm long, and has a diameter of 2.5-3 cm.

Danghuchuan is to row a fake boat. Performers dress up in boat-shaped costumes, and act out rowing a boat on land.

It is a unique performance art in which two actors play the leading roles. The dance has been selected to be on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

(2) Yaokuaichuan (row fast boats)

Time: 9:30-15:30

Address: Fu'an Bridge - Quangong Bridge

Yaokuaichuan was a necessity among all local activities. Over hundreds of years, Yaokuaichuan developed into a large-scale entertainment program in festivals, harvesting celebrations, and weddings.

Local farmers would prepare boats, garments, utensils, gongs and drums for their enjoyment. Yaokuaichuan projected the rich folk customs of the riverside town.

During the event, boats will be decorated with colored lamps and banners. Each boat will be crewed with about 15 strong oarsmen, wearing tight clothes and embroidered straw sandals.
