New Year food
During the Spring Festival, Kunshan locals often eat Niangao, which is literally translated as Chinese New Year's cake made of glutinous rice. It is considered to bring good luck. In Chinese, "gao" means 'high' and niangao refers to "higher each year," symbolizing progress and promotion at work and in daily life year by year.
It is also a tradition to eat tangyuan, a Chinese sweet dumpling, during the festival to wish for family reunion. In addition, drinking rice wine and eating fish are parts of the New Year traditions.
