The first specially-designed bus route went into operation in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, on Oct 8. The customized route, which runs according to specific passenger needs, is cheaper than driving a private car and lets passengers rest during the trip.
The transportation authority launched two lines and recruited passengers in September, with one line attracting 12 passengers. The 24-kilometer line has 12 stops, taking 1.5 hours to travel from the Yang Guang Garden residential area to Zhengwei Road-Baisheng Road in Jinxi town.
Passengers pay 10 yuan ($1.63) per trip for the first 10 kilometers and 3 yuan for every additional 5 kilometers. The traffic authority plans to launch more routes according to passenger travel needs.
