During the past National Day holiday (Oct 1-7), Kunshan in Jiangsu province received over 1.97 million tourists and generated revenues of 20.16 million yuan ($3.23 million), a year-on-year growth of 6.06 percent and 0.52 percent, respectively.
Among the tourist attractions in Kunshan, Zhouzhuang saw 410,300 tourists, an increase of 4.9 percent. Jinxi received 200,600 travelers, an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the same period last year, and Qiandeng welcomed 122,300 tourists, up 3.6 percent.
In addition, many hotels around the scenic spots witnessed full occupancy over the holidays.
Many visitors were lured by Kunshan's ancient architecture, Yangcheng Lake crabs, Kunqu opera, guzheng performances (a traditional Chinese stringed instrument), handicraft workshops such as bamboo weaving workshops and Suzhou embroidery workshops, and traditional performances including dalianxiang (a folk dance with singing) and danghuchuan (a dance that imitates rowing a boat).
Zhu Tianhang, a visitor from Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, said that he took a tour around all the old towns in Kunshan and was impressed by the elegant opera and distinctive Jiangnan culture.
