Life after shantytown clearance

Residents make handicrafts at a pioneer park for women in Beiyi Community, Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Jan 25, 2017. Beiyi Community is one of the new communities built for former residents of shantytown areas in Beiliang, Baotou. The pioneer park was set up to assist the employment of women. Professionals have been invited to give lessons on handicraft-making including cross-stitching, making silk flowers, Chinese knotting, and knitting. Female residents learn to make handicrafts to sell and they are allowed to keep the profits. So far, 793 women who can’t find employment and 315 women with physical disabilities make money this way at the pioneer park. [Photo/people.cn]
