Tourism in Baotou hits new record
Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, saw 836,000 tourists visit during the “Golden Week”, year-on-year growth of 23.7 percent, with tourism revenues hitting 627 million yuan ($94 million), up 28.5 percent from the same period last year, Baotou Daily reported on Oct 8.
Tours of the city’s outskirts and various other road trips are popular with many, as the weather in Baotou is clear and comfortable during the National Day holiday period from Oct 1 to 7.
Baotou has spent more than two billion yuan ($300 million) on building roads and tourist centers to boost tourism. The improved infrastructure has helped to ease the traffic and offer more convenience to tourists. Popular tourist attractions in Baotou including the Wudang Lamasery, Meidai Monastery, Nanhai Wetland scenic area and the Northern Weaponry Park witnessed a dramatic rise in the numbers of visitors.
