The main work of the world's largest U-shaped water delivery project completed

On Sep 28, the No.54 section of Tuanhe Aqueduct of the middle line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, which is the world’s largest U-shaped water delivery aqueduct that is undertaken by CGGC, was completed, 90 days ahead of the schedule. So far, the main work of the world’s largest U-shaped water delivery aqueduct, was officially completed.

Located at Dengzhou city, Henan province, Tuanhe Aqueduct is not only a control project of the middle main line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, but also the world’s largest U-shaped thin-walled aqueduct with the largest single-span flow.

The project is 1,030 meters long in total and consists of independent 3-line 3-groove pre-stressed concrete thin-walled U-shaped structure. The project has 18 spans (54 frames), with each span has a length of 40 meters and a weight of 1,600 tons. The project has a design flow of 350 cubic meters per second and maximum flow of 420 cubic meters per second, and is able to fill a standard swimming pool in 5 seconds.

Now, 490 million cubic meters of earth rock have been excavated, 268 million cubic meters of earth rock have been filled and 24 million cubic meters of concrete have been poured at the middle main line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The 1,776 structures along the line have been basically completed and the channel with a length of over 1,000 kilometers has taken shape. The main work of the middle main line will be completed at the end of this year and is expected to supply water to Beijing and Tianjin after the flood season in 2014.
