Namibia northern highway project started by CGGC

President pohamba laid a foundation for the project

A ceremony was held on May 15 at the construction site for the commencement of the Namibia Northern Highway upgrading project, one of the major projects undertaken by CGGC in this southwestern African country.

Hifikepunye Pohamba, Namibian President, Li Yigang, Charge d' affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, and other Chinese and Namibian government officials attended the ceremony together with related people of CGGC and hundreds of local residents.

The Namibia Northern Highway upgrading project is divided into two sections: the Omakange—Ruacana section of the MR67 Highway and the Omafo—Outapi section of the DR3608 Highway. The latter section, with a total length of 98.25 kilometers, is located in the Ohangwena region in the northern part of the country, basically parallel with the Namibia-Angola border. It is a two-way two-lane highway and the main construction work is to upgrade the present unsurfaced road to an asphalt road in a contract period of 36 months.

When completed, the project will significantly improve the transport conditions in the densely populated northern part of Namibia, create a great number of job opportunities for the local people, further strengthen economic and trade relations between Namibia and Angola, and therefore play an active role in promoting Namibian economic and social development.
