Updated: 2010-02-10

On Feb 6, 2010, Taoussa Hydropower Station Project in Mali, undertaken by CGGC, officially kick-started, and Mali President Amadou Toumani Toure and Chinese Ambassador in Mali Zhang Guoqing attended the celebration ceremony.

Located at the principal stream of the Niger River in Bourem Cercle in Gao region in northern Mali and adjacent to the south brim of the Sahara, the station is designed to install five sets in the construction period of 54 months.

As a major project to boost the economic development in North Mali, it has cost more than 30 years from planning to implementation. Once finished, it will help to cope with the difficulty imposed on economic development by prolonging draught and lack of rainfall and severe desertification, guarantee food security, and ease the energy scarcity.

It is the second project in Mali contracted by CGGC who has undertaken the electromechanical equipment, electricity transmission and transformation engineering, and the client’s camp, etc. CGGC’s first project in Mali is the Bamako No 3 Bridge.

Amadou Toumani Toure, Mali President, and Mamadou Diarra, the Mali Minister of Mines, Energy & Water Resources addressed the groundbreaking ceremony. The President expressed his gratitude for CGGC’s efforts on preparing for the project, and hoped it can demonstrate its strength and capability as it did in the Bamako No 3 Bridge project and score another triumph. Then he unveiled the corner stone for the station.

On Feb 8, the President received CGGC representatives in his official residence in Bamako.
