A volunteer activity was held at Huaqiao station on Shanghai Metro Line 11 to celebrate International Volunteer Day on Dec 5.
The Huaqiao working committee of the Youth Communist League established a volunteer service station at the exit of Huaqiao station.
As part of their service, volunteers gave directions for drivers stopping by or parking.
The volunteers provided bus line information and other consultation services to passengers. Their services helped save time for passengers and simplify their transfer at the station.
Opened in October, the Huaqiao extension of Shanghai Metro Line 11 has three stations within Huaqiao and an average passenger volume of 25,000 people per day. Though six more bus lines were added to better distribute passenger flow, the stations' functional departments were still under pressure due to the many passengers.
The volunteers gave a helping hand to the functional departments by working with traffic police, traffic control officers and urban management officers.
The passengers welcomed the volunteers. The volunteers were also happy they could make a difference.
International Volunteer Day occurs every December 5. It is an international observance started in 1985 to celebrate and promote the spirit of volunteerism, including dedication, fraternity, mutual-aid and progress.
