Huaqiao held a compulsory Spring Festival couplet writing activity in Huaxi Square and offered the works to residents for free on Jan 18.
Six calligraphers attended the activity, which attracted many residents including shop owners, private businessmen, passersby and those who would return their hometowns from Kunshan. “I asked a calligrapher to write 10 pieces of the Chinese character fu to bring luck and happiness to my relatives in my hometown,” said an elderly man.
The calligraphers wrote more than 300 Spring Festival couplets until 4:00 pm that day.
