“Eco-city China Trip”, a series of activities co-organized by Chinese Society for Urban Studies (CSUS) and local governments, entered Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, Kunshan City on July 5.

Qiu Baoxing, vice minister of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MHURD), attended the activity and delivered a keynote speech.

“Eco-city China Trip” is intended to promote policies, mechanisms and technologies on eco-city construction. Through various forms including keynote speeches, dialogues and roundtable meetings, the activity invited model eco-cities from home and abroad, representatives from international organizations, national government management or planning departments, well-known experts and important developers to discuss about eco-city issues.

Lu Jun, the mayor of Kunshan City, said in his speech that , “Eco-city China Trip” is a vital platform for exchanges of information, technologies and experience, and Kunshan will work harder to become a eco-city, an attractive livable city and a sustainable low-carbon city with its characteristics in industries, functions, culture and ecology.

After the activity, Qiu Baoxing and a delegation visited the biggest 3-star green building complex in Jiangsu Province – Financial Garden, Global Data Solutions, Tianfu•Huaqiao and Qiaoyuan Garden, and appreciated Huaqiao’s achievements in eco-city construction.

During the past three years, Huaqiao International Business Service Park has completed 20 building projects using renewable energy, covering a construction area of 1.6 million square meters. Huaqiao has received awards of UN Environment-Planning Model Park, China Habitat Environment Model, Jiangsu Provincial Model of Energy-Saving and Green Building and MHURD Green Building Model Park.
