The fourth session of the 17th People’s Congress was held in Huaqiao town on Jan. 19. Sixty-four delegates of Huaqiao, representing all walks of life, attended the meeting.

Delegates examined the government work report, presidium’s work report and the report of Huaqiao town’s budget plan, and proposed many questions and suggestions at the meeting.

In the past year, Huaqiao has made enormous progress in various fields, including the people’s livelihood and welfare, economic growth and infrastructure completion. GDP growth was 34.6 percent higher than last year, reaching 9.223 billion yuan. Total revenues exceeded 3 billion yuan, a 63.7% increase year-on-year.

In 2011, Huaqiao’s government will further embrace the spirit of scientific outlook on development and contribute to building an international base for the hospitality industry in East China.
