A delegation from Taicang Port made a call to the Huaqiao International Service Business Park last Friday to get a better understanding of Huaqiao by visiting the experimental training center, Greenland development and Tiantian International.
The delegation was led by Qiu Zhende, vice mayor of Taicang and director of the managing committee of Taicang development zone. Ren Xueyuan, director of the managing committee of Huaqiao economic development zone, and Shen Huafei and Chen Wenrong, vice directors of the managing committee, were on hand to greet the group.
Qiu spoke highly of Huaqiao’s great achievements over the past three years, saying as a showcase of Kunshan, Huaqiao set a good example for Taicang in the aspects of clear development thought and brave industry and enterprise spirit. He also promised to cooperate with Huaqiao for a better future and more rapid development.
The cross-Straits (Kunshan) commerce and trade cooperation zone will be the key point over the next period, Ren said of Huaqiao’s construction progress. The Huaqiao International Service Business Park aims to make use of its geographic and communication advantages to develop into the first platform for Taiwanese commodities, according to Ren, who called on the Taicang Port delegation to provide a green channel of transportation for the cooperation zone to promote the cross-Straits economic relationship. Since the direct flight between Taicang Port and Kaohsiung Airport was launched, the two regions plan to cooperate further on sea transportation.
Taicang is located southeast of Jiangsu Province, boarding the Yangtze River on the east and connecting with Shanghai on the south. Taicang (literally “emperors' storage”) was named as such after being the first choice for the Emperor’s granary 2,400 years ago. It is honored as “Golden Taicang in Silk Southeast China”. The city was an important port for China for trade relations with overseas countries in the past.
