Hi-tech industry has become an increasingly important part of the Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, increasing to 37.4 percent of industrial enterprises with sales over two million yuan annually in June. That is up 9.2 percentage points from 28.2 percent in the first quarter.

Additionally, the hi-tech industry accounted for 1.587 billion gross industrial output values over the first half of this year.

A report from the Economic Development Bureau of the Huaqiao Economic Development Zone attributed the increase to strong from the government in the form of preferential policies, such as investment subsidies with a maximum of 15 million yuan.

Huaqiao’s own efforts to encourage the enterprises to introduce more technology into traditional industries also played a role.
