In the remarkable 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the state gift "Tide Player" produced by Ruiping Ru Porcelain Workshop was well received by the public. Yao Ruiping, the new generation designer, is a successor of Ru porcelain craft.
Yao fell in love with the fine arts as a child. In 1984, the 19-year-old entered Ruzhou Arts and Crafts Ru Porcelain Plant and was taught ever since by Meng Yusong, master of Ru porcelain craft. The authentic skill was passed on to her. Educated formally at university, she is able to borrow from various techniques and create a unique artistic style of her own.
Ru porcelain's glazing process needs particular care. Its enamel layer is glossy and fine-grained; the glaze color is just fine, showing azure and green. Emergence of various green glazes fully proves that Chinese nationa’s preference for green.
After many years of practical work and devoted research, Yao Ruiping came up with her own unique way in deploying colored glaze. Her works are fresh and beautiful and refined in form; while the colored glaze, elegant or plain, either way manifests a vivid artistic effect. It is worth mentioning that some of her modern Ru porcelain works have peculiar shapes, richer in form and technique of expression, showing her bold exploration and endeavor in terms of technical means as well as connotation expression.
The Expo state gift "Tide Player" was designed and made by Yao Ruiping, modeled on Shanghai World Expo mascot "Hai Bao" and the rolling sea waves. Hai Bao jumping joyfully on the surging waves shows an imposing momentum, bringing out a lasting charm of the “Tide Player” thanks to its dynamic form. The work shows the designer owns a solid training background of artistic expression. Experts comment that this work has carried out the traditional techniques of Ru porcelain. Besides, it has grasped a decent artistic conception and temperament -- a perfect mix of motion and stillness, of tradition and fashion, excreting a strong visual impact and obvious Yao Ruiping style.
In 2004, Yao set up the Ruiping Ru Porcelain Workshop to exclusively sell her own works. Now she operates "Ruiping Ru Porcelain" as a brand. By strengthening brand building and brand promotion, she is devoted to carrying forward the modernized development of "Ruiping Ru Porcelain".
