During the first half of the year 2011, Lushan county of Pingdingshan, Henan province, hosted more than three million tourists, generating tourism revenue worth over 840 million yuan, up 15.8 and 15.5 percent respectively from last year.

The county was able to attract investments to develop the 5A Yaoshan Buddha scenic spot. The money has been spent on infrastructural facilities, better landscaping design, and kinder and more understanding services.

The county has benefited from its tourism campaign. Several tourism seminars were held in other cities in order to attract more people to Lushan. Winter was the low season for Lushan in the past. However in January 2011, the number of visitors broke the 100 thousand mark. Since then, tourism has flourished to the utmost, especially during Tomb-sweeping Day and the Dragon Boat Festival.

Rural inns have profited from offering better services and lower prices. Lushan is also popular among people who become fed up with the hustle and bustle of the city. Lushan offers a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for families who want a weekend away or to celebrate events such as the Spring Festival. During the first half year, rural inns accommodated 450 thousand visitors, up 17.4 percent from the same time last year.

Many holiday makers also visit the county to soak in the county's popular hot springs
