Han dynasty art taught in Nanyang primary school

Updated: 2019-05-27

The Nanyang Community Volunteers Association recently organized a trip to the No 47 Primary School in the city, giving a class on the intangible heritage of rubbing art, as part of an initiative called “learning from grandfathers and grandmothers”.

Wang Jingmin, the founder of Nanyang colorful Han dynasty art, was invited as the lecturer, explaining the history of Han art and its unique charm.

A rubbing is a copy of writing or a design on a piece of stone or metal that is made by placing a piece of paper over it and rubbing with chalk, a pencil, or similar utensils.

Wang helped the students experience the unique charm of rubbing art by combining the theory and the actual practice.

Wang's colorful Han dynasty art rubbings were processed with his own color filling materials. The rubbings show the texture and three-dimensional effect of the original stone engravings, and express the vitality of the ancient Han art.

The teachers and students who participated in the activity said that everyone was aware of the outstanding charm of traditional Chinese culture captured through rubbing art.
