With the deepening of the reform of the cultural administrative system, the central government has accelerated a pilot project launched in 2009 to transform 10 major State-owned news websites into commercial enterprises.
At a meeting held by the State Council Information Office in May 2010, the executives in charge of the websites agreed to grasp the opportunity to reform their old management systems, change their way of thinking and embrace development through the integration of resources. Now the websites are making huge efforts to develop their businesses related to new media, including search engines, mobile newspapers, mobile TV, e-commerce and video games.
Here are the 10 websites selected by the government to become the first State-owned news websites to list on the stock markets.
