A look at Marx in modern times
By Zhu Linyong ( chinadaily.com.cn )

Capitalism dominates the world as never before and yet it is being rocked by continuous crises. How would the greatest critique of the capitalist system, Karl Marx’s classic Das Kapital (Capital), say about this?

The Goethe-Institute in Beijing has teamed up with arts and culture institutions in Beijing and Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, to hold a series of public events to explore how Marx´s critique would apply to the current reality.

“New Approaches to Marx in Film, Art and Theater” include screenings of the film: “News from Ideological Antiquity: Marx - Eisenstein – Capital,” by the German filmmaker Alexander Kluge, dialogues between German and Chinese scholars, panel discussions and open forums, and performances of the production “Karl Marx: Capital, Volume One” by the German theatre group Rimini-Protokoll.

The intercultural activities will run through March 12 in Beijing and Hangzhou.
