The long table banquet tradition in Danzhai can be traced back more than 1,000 years. It has always been a demonstration of the hospitality of people of the Miao ethnic group. Danzhai, used to be an impoverished county, but it has become a tourist resort thanks to the joint efforts of the local government and China Wanda Group, a huge company with wide interests.
Wanda signed an agreement with the local Danzhai government in December 2014 to help the county escape poverty. The total investment was 1.5 billion yuan ($225.9 million). It was used to build a polytechnic college and a tourism town and to establish a special fund for poverty alleviation.
Put into service in July this year, Wanda Town, the tourism town invested by Wanda Group, is expected to bring one million tourists to Danzhai and generate annual revenue of 500 million yuan.
According to an investigation by the China Tourism Academy, the town and its related service industries will create 6,000 jobs.
