During an interview with Andrew Michener, the director of the Clean Coal Energy Center of the International Energy Agency, he spoke highly of the Seminar on China-UK Clean Coal Energy and held optimistic opinions on clean coal cooperation between Guizhou and the UK.
Talking about Guizhou, Michener said, "I had been in Guizhou working of three years in the 1990s and it surprised me to see Guizhou's change today, compared with that of decades ago. Guizhou, as a major coal mining province, has built functional infrastructures and has amazingly maintained a good ecological environment."
Coal energy is the foundation of Chinese industries, though more efforts are now being put into exploring new energy; but coal energy, being wide spread, cost-effective and easy-to-use is still attractive.
Guizhou always insists on using coal in less-polluting ways to maintain a good ecological environment which could be seen as a demonstration for the rest of the country.
"The cooperation between Guizhou and the UK on clean coal energy is promising," said Michener,"I hope clean coal energy can be widely applied, as it will be cost-effective and give high returns."
