Over the past five years, Guizhou has lifted 3.4 million residents, eight counties and 194 villages out of poverty in rural areas.

"In 2013, through poverty alleviation and development work in Guizhou, the province aims to reduce poverty for one million people, increase farmer per capita net income by 18 percent, and ensure that five counties and 86 villages realize poverty relief," said Chen Min'er, Guizhou provincial governor, at the Guizhou Poverty Alleviation and Development Conference.

Chen stressed that in order to achieve the goals, Guizhou's poverty alleviation and development should focus on supporting industry, enhancing people's livelihoods and improving infrastructure.
