By the end of last year, Guizhou had constructed 2,066 kilometers of operating railway. Another 1,485 kilometers are currently under construction.
According to the national medium- and long-term railway network plan, Guizhou is now accelerating the construction of the Chengdu-Guiyang, Tongren-Yuping and Xiaobi-Qingzhen-Baiyun railways and the second stage of the Chongqing-Huaihua Railway. The province is also undergoing early preparations for the Guiyang-Beihai, Huangtong-Baise and Bijie-Xuyong railways.
The railway investment plan made by the Ministry of Railways for Guizhou this year totals 26.65 billion yuan ($4.27 billion). Guizhou hopes to eventually reach 30 billion yuan in railway investment.
The Jiuchang-Yongwen Railway and the Lindai-Xindian section of the Lindai-Zhijin Railway will be completed within 2013.
Guizhou also hopes to complete the eastern part of the Changsha-Kunming Passenger Railway in 2014, the Guiyang-Guangzhou Railway in 2015, the western part of the Changsha-Kunming Passenger Railway in 2016 and the Chongqing-Guiyang Railway in 2017. The efforts will connect Guizhou to the developed areas of the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta by an express railway network.
