Statistics provided by the Caohai National Nature Reserve Administration show that the total number of migratory birds here reached 40,571 by Nov 21. The total number of birds is increasing and is estimated to reach more than 100,000 by February next year, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Caohai is situated in Weining county, Guizhou province. As the biggest winter habitant for black-necked cranes in the world, Caohai National Nature Reserve is well-known as one of the best wetlands for bird watching. Especially in recent years, thanks to local residents’ increasing awareness of bird protection, Caohai’s natural environment has been greatly improved, attracting more and more migratory birds here in winter.
