The two-day 2011 Eco-Forum Global was open on July 16th,2011 at Guiyang International Conference and Exhibition Center. The meeting started with the instruction made by Jia Qingling and Zheng Wantong’s opening remarks. The former British Prime Minister Tony Blair gave a video speech. Ireland's former Prime Minister Bertie Ahern spoke at the opening ceremony too. The subject of the meeting is “A green transformation means both opportunities and challenges”. The meeting emphasized consideration of the city as the core, enterprise the key, technology the forerunner, education the basic, media the catalyst, and society the foundation. Apart from sub-forums such as Education Forum, Science Forum and Technology Forum, the meeting also set 11 topic forums (roundtable conference) and over 30 activities including exhibition and charity events. The National Low-Carbon Seminar and Experience Exchange Meeting of Experimental Ecological City were also held in Guiyang at the same time. National Ecological Exhibition and Guiyang, China Energy-saving and Environmentally Friendly Products and Technology Exhibition was open to the pubic free of charge.
Some ecological experts, including Qing Dahe, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Science, and Hu Zhengrong, vice-president of Communication University of China, discussed ecological problems with the public to explore new ways and methods in creating ecological society.
Some performing stars also visited Guiyang to present their ecological ideas during environmental charity activities. There were also many charity activities such as “Ecological Ambassador Award Ceremony” and ”Talk Show: An Interview with a Guiyang Environment Protection Volunteer”.
